DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Our client is a power producer and service provider in renewable electricity production from solar, wind, hydro and biomass energies (combining storage solutions) that is seeking to recruit an entrepreneurial Development Manager.
The Role
The role will include (but will not be limited to):
Overall understanding of the steps in the value chain of an energy project and knowledge of opportunities in the energy market in Kenya.
Identify, originate and develop new business opportunities in Solar, Wind, Small Hydro, Storage and Hybrid projects in Kenya, and be able to compromise with an Objective Portfolio Capacity.
Origination and development of a RE portfolio of large-scale projects (>20MW) and C&I projects with private companies.
Drive the projects to planning application and consent. Manage the Legal and Technical
Due Diligence process with the support of the legal and technical teams. Negotiate the relevant project contracts: NDA, Exclusivity, Lease, SPA, IA.
Prepare a financial model to assess the returns of the projects in collaboration with Asset Financing Department.
Create presentations to be presented at Investment Committees.
Deal with local stakeholders (landowners, DNOs, off-takers, EPC and O&M suppliers) to build a suitable business case for these projects in the context of a move towards subsidy free power plants.
Be able to procure land for new projects, dealing with local authorities, County Governments and local communities.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a candidate who has:
Experience in energy firms dealing with utility-scale and/or distribution energy projects in Kenya
Have excellent planning and organizational skills
Experience in dealing with utility companies, generation companies or Energy concessions (Transmission or
Generation) in Kenya;
Complete understanding of local Kenyan regulation in the energy sector;
Excellent networking with the players in the Kenyan energy sector
Driven and self-motivated with strong negotiation skills and commercial awareness
Track record in the successful delivery of projects, including land negotiation, grid connection negotiation, planning consent, PPA negotiation, engineering and construction monitoring.
Awareness of Health and Safety rules and culture applicable to renewable asset development and construction.
Total pro-business approach, supporting the development of new business models;
Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
Wide network of relationship in the field of renewables
Good understanding of the financial drivers in the renewable business.
General knowledge of the RE industry, energy and environmental issues in Kenya.
Solid knowledge of commercial activities including funding arrangements and legal documentation negotiation.
Technical understanding of Project development, construction and operation.
Understanding of property development, particularly lease, easement, and wayleave agreements.
